Office buildings or shopping malls are popular places where women either work, do business, meet people for appointments, or simply enjoy some shopping. Unfortunately these public places are becoming more notorious if female safety is concerned.

It is more and more found that women in particular are the most at risk and more specific in the garages that are adjacent to these commercial types of buildings. Perpetrators are purposely prey at these buildings on defenseless females.

Secluded, isolated, and inadequately lit places are the ideal harvesting grounds for these culprits. There are plenty space to hide their presence from unsuspecting targets which makes it absolutely effortless and uncomplicated to snatch a woman, shove her in a vehicle in close proximity and drive off. The numerous exit routs that exist in these types of buildings make it even more unproblematic to commit these types of crimes.

Another very popular public place for women to be at risk is at a public restroom.

Because these criminals know that the majority of females need to make use of public bathroom facilities occasionally and therefore regard it as an ideal place to prey on an unsuspecting defenseless victim. Perpetrators roam the common area while monitoring the restrooms to identify a suitable victim. Their modus operandi usually entail to wait until no one is around to hear the confrontation, overpower her in one way or another, and progress to a place where he can pursue his criminal activities undisturbed without being noticed.

Women visiting commercial buildings and in particular high rise buildings, have to pass or make use of at least one of the high risk areas. The most risky time is when she leaves the building, regardless if it is a bathroom, fleet of stairs, lifts, parking garage or parking lot; there are not many alternatives to steer clear of the posing risks. All of these mentioned places are known to provide ample hiding space for abduction, rape, or assault perpetrators. Any person in any vehicle can be a possible assailant and due to the circumstances, many times it is too late for the woman to get away from an attacker before he can strike.

The importance of being vigilant and having an action plan ready just in case can not be stressed enough. There are various ways that can be included in an action plan to repel or disable attackers. Keeping keys ready to attack or walking with someone in groups are all good ways of protection or to deter possible perpetrators. Another method that works well without giving the perpetrator an opportunity to come too close is by having a non lethal weapon such as pepper spray or a stun gun.

There are endless options available and most of these non lethal weapons come in the most unexpected shapes and sizes. The important thing is to get one, know how to use it and survive the attack to tell the story so other women can be prepared and informed.
