Is your Computer Security Threat Free?
Computer systems are very prone to lots of security threats. An inflicted system may result to various problems, to include significant losses. Your PC and personal privacy are at risk if social network, web browser, public computer, or mobile phones are used. If you are not aware what computer security means, then you are at risk.
Computer security, also known as information security, aims to include information and property protection from theft, corruption and natural disaster. Intended users are allowed with retained access to information. On the other hand, computer systems security is the general mechanism that protects sensitive and important information from unwarranted publication and tampering.
If your computer is not protected, the tendency is for it to be damaged. The damage will harm your database or ruin the entire computer core. The cause of the destruction can be from outside hackers or from careless data entry personnel. Network worms, Phishing email and drive-by downloads are possible channels that private data will be sniffed from an open wireless network.
At present, there are only estimates of computer losses because it seems impossible to quantify the number of victims. No precise quantity of computer security-related losses is reported. Most of them are put into oblivion or “swept under the rug”. This is because most losses are never discovered and culprits are still at large.
To combat the ever-growing number of security threats, one must use a computer with safety nets at hand. For every potential pitfall of a careless PC user comes inevitable damage. You must accept the truth that threat exists. As knowledge is power, acquire some basic knowledge on how to avoid them. Anticipate for it. Unless, of course, if you will not use a computer or internet again. The job now is to evade brilliantly designed booby traps. If your computer will prompt a not trusted site or software, do not forego downloading or opening it. The focus now is to keep outsiders from entering into our private information. Computer security can be executed through physical and technical measures, like guards, firewalls, passwords and others.
When bank robber Willie Sutton was asked why he robbed the bank, he simply answered, “bank is where the money is!” Private information that we stored in our computer means money, too. In a hi-tech society and international business community, information is very valuable. There are lots of internet hackers, con artists and smash-and-grab professionals waiting for preys to allow their access to penetration to information. They make a living out from victimizing those people who are not familiar of their trade. Carelessness in this computer age and not anticipating possible threats ahead is similar to driving long distance trips without bringing a spare tire. Of course, there are meagre possibilities that you can get through, for months and even years, but keeping yourself unprepared for oncoming troubles is a moron’s philosophy. Remember, once luck leaves you, it is pricey and inconvenient to repair a damaged computer system or refill lost finances.
Now, is your computer safe from threats? Abovementioned causes and consequences determine how erratic damage can be. As technology advances from year to year, computer crimes and modus operandi also goes with the flow. Malicious hackers can come in any façade.
