The Automatic Teller Machine, popularly known as the ATM is the best way to withdraw money. ATM’s are a great convenience. It ensures fast, safe and accrued banking transactions. As such there are no written safety guidelines while using the ATM machine. But certain tips may save you from falling prey to misfortune.

Always use common sense when it comes to your security.

People visiting the ATM Machine are subject falling prey to robbery. To avoid this, always use ATMs in secure areas. Never go to ATMs that are remote or located in secluded areas. This way you will ensure that you are not the easy target to thief. Poorly lit secluded corners are more vulnerable to looters. ATMs at airports, sports venues or even malls, are a great convenience, but they can compromise your safety. That doesn’t mean that you should avoid using them. Just be aware of your surroundings.

Common-sense tells us that night is the time for falling prey to robbery. Avoid going to the ATM during late hours. On a recently conducted survey, it was found that maximum robbery cases happened between 6.30 pm to midnight.

While transacting with the ATM Machines be alert. Keep an eye around you; check if somebody is observing your actions. If you feel somebody is following you, look for the police, security guard or go to a crowd of people. Usually the ATMs have security guards outside or cameras installed. If you are using the machine in public check if somebody is seeing you typing, looking over your shoulder. Be a little secretive while typing the PIN password.

When using a Drive-Up ATM keep your doors locked at all times and before lowering your window, observe the surrounding area for security risks.

Pin is the access to your account. If anybody else gets it, he might have an easy access to your money. Never keep the pin written down in your purse or wallet with the card or yourself. Memorize it and store the paper in the safe of your locked filling cabinet! If ever your card is stuck, do not re-enter the password. Bring the situation immediately contact bank official authorities.

Never count your cash standing in front of the ATM or in public. This can invite trouble for you. Also never use machines that are giving you unusual options. Better to use machines that you are sure of. Keep regular check of your bank accounts. Nowadays you can ask for message alert for every withdrawal or deposit. Take advantage of this option so that in case of a theft you may be notified soon and stop all transitions on your account.

Do not spend too much time in the ATM. If you have written work, get it done from home. Also do not carry valuables with you when you go to the ATM. If you feel anything suspicious and are being threaten. Run as fast as you can, even if you have to leave your card. If you have fallen prey to a robber, it is wise to part with your money rather than your lives, for most robbers carry weapons.

In a recent survey it was found that most robbers, who have been victimizing people at ATM’s, are around and below thirty years of age, are not in their proper frame of mind for they are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Excellent safety tips for using the ATM. There were only a couple of grammar errors in it. Just remember to edit, edit, edit before publishing. Good work.
