·         Monitor your credit card report. If there are peculiar purchases which you are sure that you never remember purchasing or paying for it, immediately de-activates or freeze your credit account.

·         Remove you mails from your mailbox the soonest. If you want to make outgoing mails, deposit it in a blue postal service box instead of leaving it to your home’s mailbox

·         Shred all financial documents before you dispose them to the garbage containers. Empty your trash in between the garbage pick- up time. This way, it will not sit for days for longer periods outside your home and gives opportunity for thieves to look for useful financial information.

·         Never divulge your financial and personal information over the phone. Your identity theft security will roll once you never disclose it to strangers.

·         Be careful to give your personal information in the internet. Many con artists do pretend to be nice. Their offers are of promising future and the booby traps are all there to outwit the wary and careless soul. Con artists do tell false stories and pretend to be somebody they are not.

·         Do not give data about your credit cards or any other personal financial information in any websites. Choose websites that are securely locked and with identity theft security for your online payments.

·         In creating online accounts, create passwords that are difficult to guess and is not related to your personal information. In order to make a safe password, do not use your birthday or your mother’s maiden name. An alphanumeric long entry is ideal.

·         Monitor the monthly financial statements of your bank. Make sure that you receive them regularly. If the same does not arrive in right time, initiate a communication to your bank.

·         Do not indicate your home phone number and social security number in your checks; place your business or work’s phone instead.

·         Use your PO Box, if you have one, instead of your home’s address. Identity theft security can best be done if you keep your home address undisclosed to the public.

·         Use initials in your first name, say A.O.Ali instead of AyiO.Ali, when you order for your next check book. If your checks will be lost, it will be hard for them to decipher the real full name.

·         Keep your Social Security Number and financial records in your home’s safety deposit box if you do not intend to use them for certain periods. Do not place them in your wallet or bag.

·         Make a photocopy of your credit cards, driver’s license, SSN, and other important identification and keep them securely.

Identity theft security is all left in your own responsibility. There is nobody that can prevent them from being stolen, but only yourself. Be careful!
