Effective Self Defense Options
61
Making the choice to improve your self defense skills is the first step in the right direction, yet the question still remain what to do and where to start. There are so many gadgets and marketing of self defense equipment and various skill levels that it can become confusing.
A sensible first step will be to attach a whistle to your key ring or wear it around your neck. A few persistent blows can deter a possible attacker quickly because of the attention it draws.
In order to select an effective self defense option you need to start at a low or beginners level. The following options are good starting points for beginners.
Self Defense Classes
Attending self defense classes is a great way to enhance your self defense skills. It is likely that you will find information from your local community center or local police station when and where classes are presented. These classes mainly teach people how to use their own body strength and teach effective physical strategies to defend and protect yourself.
Non Lethal Weapons
Non lethal weapons are objects or gadgets such as pepper spray, tazers, stun guns, and other similar products. This is a good option for people who do not possess physical strength or need additional protection. Training to use these kinds of products is highly recommended. Proper training can prevent the assailant using your own self defense products against you. Fortunately, if an attacker manages to use your weapon against you, you are likely to suffer discomfort but the non lethal self defense product will not cause permanent harm.
Martial Arts
There are hundreds of thousands martial arts practitioners all over the US providing classes in this ancient art of self protection. It is important to note though that by attending only two or three classes will be on no use. Martial arts are a form of art that takes years to perfect and a solid amount of dedication.
Lethal Weapons
This is a debated issue and is likely to be debated for years to come. Lethal weapons are mainly weapons that can kill such as a firearm or knife. Before buying a lethal weapon one need to consider the risk of the assailant using the weapon against you. Not only do you need to realize the major responsibility of keeping a firearm, and the dangers associated with it, but also that you will need expert training to use it effectively and only in extreme situations. This choice should be contemplated on very thoroughly.
